Jeppesen has signed a contract with one of Australia 's leading railway operators, Queensland Rail (QR), to deliver rail crew management software that meets the needs of QR's Roster Application project. This will improve the management of shift-based staff and assist QR in achieving their goal of World's Best Practice in transport services.
The Resource Management Solution - Rail (RMS - R) software and services being delivered by Jeppesen will be used to generate optimal schedules and rosters for approximately 3,000 drivers and guards across QR's two main business lines: Passenger Services Group--responsible for Brisbane suburban rail operations and long-haul passenger operations, and QR National--delivering both freight and coal traffic services. RMS - R functionality being delivered includes infrastructure editing, train timetable editing, crew shifts management and optimization, crew rosters management and optimization, crew Day-of-Operation management, and time and attendance management. The new crew scheduling solution is expected to go into production during April 2008.
Tom Forbes, regional sales manager for Jeppesen, said, “Jeppesen has worked with QR for many years providing crew management bureau services and strategic operational studies. During this time we have established an excellent working relationship with QR and demonstrated the value of applying the latest Operations Research techniques to crew scheduling and rostering. By deploying RMS - R across their business, QR will now be able to achieve greater efficiencies throughout the planning process, from long-term planning to Day-of-Operation. We are extremely pleased to have been awarded this contract and to be able to extend our relationship with QR.”
